Still revelling in the wide acceptance of my last article titled "Thought for the week", I have been quite lethargic in the writing of more articles and a lot of events have overtaken the birth of this piece, but i guess the delivery time for it is now. I hope it gains the same wide acceptance and criticism as the last article. This article is more of a wake up call, a call to action for as many as might come in contact with it.
I am a kind of person who always strive to improve on his current status/standing/level ( no matter what that status might be). I dream higher than yesterday, the previous year or the year before that and i have had a majority of my dreams come through and this has been a major propeller for more. I have come to realise that everybody in life live in different stratas/zones and some strive to improve on their current standing while others tend to down in a particular zone, not seeking any
improvement whatsoever. These category of people (who seek no further improvement) are said to be in their "comfort zone". This zone thus forms the subject of discuss in this article.
The comfort zone is that situation/standing/level where one becomes so placid and comfortable" thus seeking no further personal development. Change is that which humans dread the most, yet it is the only constant thing in life. Everyone seeks a change of status, a change of lifestyle, a change of jobs etc but as some changes may not be forth coming when we expect it, we become satisfied with the present situation of thing (no matter how good or bad it is).
To me, a man that doesn't dream is dead while living. As young, fertile and vibrant minds, we have to exercise our minds regularly and guard against complacency. There is nothing impossible, as mpossibility is that limit that we place on our minds by ourselves. Everyday is a blank cheque waiting to be filled in with whatever we wish and we are only given a single cheque per day.
Unfortunately, people don't even make use of these blank cheques at all, the cheques accumulate but the sad news is that the cheque can only be used on the day it was issued. Not filling these cheques means that you're satisfied with where you are ......you're in your "comfort zone".............its a zone of stagnancy, no improvement, lethargy. While there is a world of difference between greediness and upward mobility, as one is positive while the other is negative, as the former is never satisfied while the latter is that which is referred to in the quote " a journey of a thousand leagues begins with a single step", it is pertinent to note that in whatever situation we find ourselves, there's always room for improvement.
Every great thing starts at conceptualisation, that is, visualising what you want/where you want to be. The mind is thus that ground where seeds are to be sown. It is the proverbial "drawing board", where we go to plan while asking ourselves soul searching questions on the way out of the comfort zone...these questions include:
THE WHY??? why are you where you are presently..
THE WHAT?? what led to being in the present situation that you are in and what can done to remedy the situation.
THE HOW?? How do you move from where you are to where you want to be( that dreamland
of yours).does it mean, you'd change jobs, get more certificates??? It is also good to seek out counsel from others who have gone ahead of you to find out how they did it.
THE WHEN??? As there's no mortgage for time, the answer to this question has always been NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Take that bold step, to improve yourself, to move out of that comfort zone of yours, to be someone NOW!!, to add value to yourself NOW!!, to learn a new word NOW!!, to be a better person NOW!!, to make someone smile NOW!!, to ........
As that NIKE slogan says, JUST DO IT!!!!!
See you at the top.
